Black Gents Of Hollywood  (www.theblackgents.com)

Official Selection: 2009                                         National Black Theatre Festival, NC

Actor/Activist Bill Cobbs and Demetrius Grosse share a moment after the National Black Theatre Festival performance in Winston Salem, NC.

Dear All,

This was the first HOLLYWOOD GENT’S performance that I had the pleasure of experiencing...and man, have I been missing out. The piece just gelled together...Mr. Cobbs and I attend a lot of theatre, particularly on the festival circuits and are always delighted to see something that stands out. Standing far, far out is even better and that is our feeling about Black Angels…an excellent and original script with fascinating “human” characters and strong scenes with truly believable and engaging dialogue—so thanks, author! In addition, there is the crisp pacing and staging, which made us discuss the top-notch direction in a way we should, but don't often do, after every performance—so thanks, director! Set design—and the ease in which it changed. And then there are the performers. Wow! What a total group of beautifully presented characters by first-rate actors who deserve nothing but congratulations. Rather than single out performance specifics, we’ll just say that we were drawn to each and every character by their performer’s excellent interpretation and the reality they brought to their roles. ...well isn't that what theatre is supposed to be about? Thanks for a flight of reality.

Warmly,

LaTanya Potts
